Afya Hatua Project

AFYA HATUA is a five-years project (2021 to 2026) funded by PEPFAR through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to support the Government of Tanzania (GoT) efforts of reaching HIV Epidemic Control through comprehensive facility and community-based HIV prevention, care, and treatment (PCT) services including ART, PMTCT, HTS, PrEP, Methadone assisted treatment (MAT), Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (in Kigoma and Shinyanga) and DREAMS in Shinyanga. Afya Plus scope of work primarily focus on supporting the Government to deliver safe and quality VMMC services across six Councils in Shinyanga Region to achieve the following objectives: –

  1. Increasing access to, and utilization of comprehensive package of VMMC services by reaching adolescents and adult men 15 years and above in the supported six Councils/SNUs.
  2. Employing innovative approaches for recruitment and demand creation for VMMC services to reach the targeted populations while adhering to COVID-19 pandemic prevention protocols.
  3. Integration of COVID-19 vaccination as part of VMMC comprehensive services at facility and community settings.
  4. Strengthening quality assurance/quality improvement systems of the VMMC program from national to facility level in Shinyanga region in line with WHO/PEPFAR /National standards.

LHRO’s Participation

Life Hope Rehabilitation Organization (LHRO) has actively partnered with the Afya Hatua Project to support its mission of improving community health outcomes. LHRO’s contributions include:

  • Community Engagement: Mobilizing communities to participate in health campaigns, educational sessions, and preventive health programs.

  • Healthcare Support: Assisting in the delivery of health services such as screenings, counseling, and referrals, ensuring underserved populations are reached.

  • Training and Capacity Building: Supporting the training of healthcare workers, volunteers, and community leaders to enhance local health service delivery.

  • Monitoring and Reporting: Collecting and analyzing health data to track progress, evaluate impact, and provide actionable insights for continuous improvement.

Through this collaboration, LHRO has reinforced its commitment to enhancing health and well-being across Tanzania, helping to ensure that quality healthcare is accessible to all.
