ABOUT US

Life and Hope Rehabilitation Organization (in its acronym LHRO) is a registered Tanzanian Non-Governmental organization that is  committed to advancing public health, social protection, and human dignity for marginalised and vulnerable populations. LHRO works to address intersecting health, social, and economic vulnerabilities by promoting harm reduction, mental health support, HIV and TB prevention, and rights-based service delivery in stigma-free environments.

LHRO, whose headquarters are located in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, operates fully-fledged Rehabilitation Centres at Bagamoyo District in Pwani region and Mwanza region respectively.

LHRO, like other stakeholders, works in collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Government of Tanzania through relevant ministries,the Drugs Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA),NASHCOP, TACAIDS,MDH,THPS, UNODC, UNICEF, UNDP, AMREF,CDC,and NACOPHA, to mention a few, in the promotion of health, fight against drugs, HIV/AIDS and TB in Tanzania.

On behalf of the management of LHRO, I would like to assure the public, our customers, employees, partners, and other stakeholders that we will continue to offer our services in accordance with human rights, dignity, confidentiality, integrity, professionalism, ethics, non-discrimination, quality, and standards.

Establishment, Legal Status and Certifications

Life and Hope Rehabilitation Organization (LHRO) is a Registered NGO under Tanzania's NGO Act 2002, with a registration no. OO NGO/ 00006007, committed to advancing public health, social protection, and human dignity for marginalized and vulnerable populations. LHRO works to address intersecting health, social, and economic vulnerabilities by promoting harm reduction, mental health support, HIV and TB prevention, and rights-based service delivery in stigma-free environments.

LHRO's OBJECTIVES

The main objective of Life and Hope Rehabilitation Organization is to dedicate its services to the community rehabilitation, counseling, capacity building, social and economic empowerment of youth and the disadvantaged groups in providing education, trainings, harm reduction services and promote public health and provide support through recovery programs for substance abuse as well as advocacy on health policies and promote integrated rights-based and stigma free interventions to reduce HIV and TB in Tanzania Mainland.

Also, LHRO is envisaged to:

  • Carry out harm reduction programs including linkage of PWUDs to MAT clinics and promote integrated rights- based and stigma free interventions, policies and to reduce HIV and other harms among people who use drugs;
  • Counsel and rehabilitate drug addicts from substance abuse (heroin, cocaine, marijuana, Khats and heavy alcoholism) through sober house services;
  • Provide psychological support, mental health awareness and therapy on addictions to the communities;
  • Advocate and promote human rights-based response to HIV and TB and promote health rights and policies to enhance access to information, education and welfare to PWUDs, vulnerable groups and adolescent girls and young women;
  • Social and economic empowerment of youth, PWUDs, PLHIV, families and the community through capacity building, vocational and entrepreneurship trainings for employment creation, poverty and risks reduction, and improvement of livelihood; and
  • Promote civic participation in national development and provide public education to strengthen community knowledge on the harms of drugs and other health harms.
